cellist
Abel Selaocoe
South African cellist Abel Selaocoe mixes musical styles, collaborating with musicians from world, classical and street music. In 2021 he appears at Snape Maltings, Ryedale Festival, and debuts at the BBC Proms.
Selaocoe completed his studies at the Royal Northern College of Music in July 2018. He’s performed in most of the UK’s major venues, performed as soloist with the BBC Philharmonic, BBC NOW, and orchestras in South Africa. He’s a chamber musician too, debuting at Wigmore Hall in 2013.
He’s recognised as an exciting new performer on the solo classical and jazz scene, particularly interested in spotlighting the connection between western and non-western music in his performances.
He’s created concert programmes for Kings Place and Aldeburgh, and collaborated with Tim Garland, Seckou Keita, Giovanni Sollima, Gwilym Simcock, and 12ensemble.
