Britten Pears Arts CEO Roger Wright receives knighthood

Congratulations to Britten Pears Arts CEO Roger Wright, who has been awarded a knighthood in the recent King’s Birthday Honours.

Thoroughly Good first got to know Roger when he was the Controller of BBC Radio 3 and Director of the BBC Proms. His generous nature encouraged some early experiments in video blogging about the Proms back in 2007. He was game enough to participate in unconventional (though fun) interviews, and even a BBC staff piano duet. Looking back at those comparatively amateurish endeavours, it’s clear that Roger’s willingness to take risks showcased his innate leadership.

Though he may not realise it and would almost certain uncomfortably dismiss his role, this early connection significantly influenced Thoroughly Good’s writing, podcasting, and video production, helping to establish an audience. His support and encouragement played a critical role in this journey.

Over the years, Roger has continued to support Thoroughly Good with invitations, warm welcomes, and sound advice. It’s a common story—many in the industry have benefited from Roger’s guidance at some point in their careers. His contributions have helped shape many successful individuals in the field.

At this year’s Aldeburgh Festival, several stories highlighted Roger’s considerable impact across various organisations, including the British Music Information Service, the Cleveland Orchestra, Deutsche Grammophon, BBC Radio 3, and the Aldeburgh Festival. Roger’s presence is felt in many places. His knighthood is fitting and richly deserved.
