Review: London Mozart Players play Vivaldi and Roxanna Panufnik at St Martin in the Fields, London

The London Mozart Players kicked off their season of concerts last week with a charming performance of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons with Roxanna Panufnik’s Four World Seasons written for and premiered during the Cultural Olympiad back in 2012.

The work – four distinct movements provided a refreshing contrast in between each of Vivaldi’s seasons, highlighting Roxanna Panufnik’s varied and engaging musical language — a rare knack and consistent in all of her works.

LMP’s strings and continuo nimbly guided us across territories and weather; Ruth Jones as soloist and director brought characteristic fizz and warmth to proceedings.

Bespoke animations projected onto the back window of St Martin in the Fields provided visual interest were both sympathetic and engaging. The combination of music and light demonstrated well-executed pragmatism on the part of artists and management, underscoring LMP’s continuing reputation of not simply getting the job done, but getting it done reliably well.

Pleasing, satisfying and restorative.

London Mozart Players 24/25 season continues with concerts at St Martin in the Fields, London, and Fairfield Halls, Croydon
