Review – Series 3 – The Diplomat

Full disclosure. The Diplomat is a firm favourite here at Thoroughly Good. It can do no wrong. The characters are strong, the intrigue engaging, and the way it pokes fun at itself makes it charming. It subverts. And series three reunites the greatest of TV actors from a previous presidential soap: Alison Janney and Bradley Whitford.

None of this should detract from the leads in the show. Keri Russell plays a likeable, feisty but always vulnerable Kate Wyler; Rufus Sewell, a mercurial husband-but-not-husband, whose landed himself second in command but who seemingly relies (no spoilers here) upon his own second-in-command to rescue him from some political scrapes.

Also. Aidan Turner (yes, him from Poldark) plays a pivotal role. Less bare flesh and absolutely no scythes here. Still lots of must-have energy.

Thoroughly Good can’t recommend it enough. If you’ve not watched any of it then you have to start from the beginning. Londoners will especially appreciate the Netflix way of rooting a drama on their target audience’s home turf. Definitely one for bingeing at Christmas.
