Announced this morning on Instagram, Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman will bow out of Strictly Come Dancing at the end of the current series.
Daly has anchored the show since its 2004 debut, first with Bruce Forsyth, later with Winkleman — together they’ve defined the tone of Saturday-night television for two decades.
Their announcement is made amid increased attention on the show’s behind-the-scenes culture and the pressures of long-running entertainment brands under constant glare.
The announcement raises a significant question: what happens next? With both presenters leaving, is this simply the end of an era or the beginning of the end for Strictly itself? At this moment in time its hard to imagine who could replace them or whether the format can truly survive a reset.
